My friend Dante
It's DanteDay. Geronimo goes to Florence to attend the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the great Italian poet's death. Alas, as it often happens to him, he falls asleep on the plane and starts dreaming: as a tourist, he enters the gate of hell and is welcomed by Dante, “moustachioed and in a fur coat”. Nearby, he spots Virgil, acting as a “tour operator” and trying to get a break from the crowd of tourists he's been guiding through the circles of hell since the beginning of the celebrations. Together with them, Geronimo takes a guided tour through “the attractions” and the sites of the Divine Comedy, revisited in humorous key and with the likeability typical of the journalist mouse beloved by children all over the world. As always in Stilton's world, however, adventures are an excuse to learn and thus the text includes plenty of educational sidebars and timelines providing information and anecdotes enticing young readers to learn more about Dante and his great works.
