Beyond the circuits:
Formula One and the tyres that revolutionised its history
Over a hundred years of technological research and partnerships with the great car manufacturers on both track and road. The history of the Long P in the world of racing is closely linked to the challenges that have been offered to it by such big names as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia and Maserati. In order to meet the tough demands of the racing sector, Pirelli has developed some of the tyres that have since gone on to make history, not only in motorsport, but also in mass mobility. One example of this is the Stella Bianca, which emerged after years of experimentation out on the circuits, improving the performance of Formula One drivers before being fitted on the historic Fiat Topolino in the years of the economic boom. Then came the Stelvio, which was initially created to meet the needs of the Scuderia Ferrari, but which brought huge successes not only to the Prancing Horse but also to many other car manufacturers. Also the P Zero tyre, which is still chosen for Formula One circuits, is now found on the road models of Ferrari and Lamborghini, and is the tyre of choice for anyone seeking dynamism and versatility.
