Joseph Conrad
Joseph Conrad was born in Berdyčiv , then in Poland, on 3 December 1857 and died in Bishopsbourne, England, a hundred years ago, on 3 August 1924. The great Polish-born British-born author was one of the forerunners of modernist literature and a great traveller and explorer. After moving to France he fell in love with sailing and embarked on several expeditions that took him around the world. From this passion came some of his greatest adventure novels such as Heart of Darkness, Typhoon and Lord Jim.
